Q: How do I purchase stocks listed on the Canadian exchanges?
A: This is a question I get quite frequently. Hopefully the following information will be of help:
1. Most Canadian stocks have an OTC or pink sheet listing in the US, which can usually be found at sites such as http://money.msn.com/stocks or http://finance.yahoo.com or www.stockhouse.com. The stocks trade more thinly on the OTC, and usually have five letters in the symbol with the last one being F, for Foreign.
2. Some Canadian stockbrokers will take American clients if they have investable assets of $100,000
3. Well-known US brokers who deal in Canadian stocks include:
a. Global Resource Investments Ltd. out of southern California: www.gril.net
b. Pennaluna & Company, in Idaho: www.pennaluna.com
c. PennTrade: http://secure.penntrade.com/
